Willibald de Cabrera was born in a small town in the state of Durango, Mexico. He started drawing at an early age and was introduced to painting when he was 13 by his art teacher Efrain Rincon. At the age of 16 he started his studies at the Escuela de Pintura y Escultura in Durango, it was there and then that he decide to become an artist. Two years later he had the opportunity to work as graphic designer, but felt he wanted more freedom of expression.
